"Yesterday's Rain" Original Song Lyrics

Yesterday's Rain was a song I wrote back in 2011. At the time I was living in the Mid West, up in MIchigan, and had been there for quite a while. Even though I loved where I was at, I was startin to get a little bit of a longing for home. It was raining hard one day, (which it does a lot there during the summer) and for some reason, watching the rain come down brought back a flood of memories from home associated with rain. In Arizona where I'm from, it doesn't rain a terrible lot. So when it does, you often remember things that happened while it was raining. The smell, the sound, or just the sight of a dark cloud comin over the hills can bring back a lot of memories. Good and bad.

So as I sat there, I started visualizing finally going home, and how it would feel to drive down the old main street again, and see familiar faces again. And then as I would drive down main street, different places or people would bring back certain memories associated with them. and it just snow-balled from there. Then I got to thinkin how a soldier must feel after coming back after a tour of duty, or a student off to college. Or a business or workin man who spends weeks on the road. Or maybe a child who after years of being separated has finally decided to come home. At one point or another in our lives, we all eventually return to our roots, home.

So with these thoughts in mind, I picked up my guitar. Come up with a good tune, started writin, and thus, "Yesterday's Rain" was born.

Yesterday's Rain written by Hayden Ballard

Verse 1

Got nowhere to go, just drivin' round this little town.

Been gone for quite a while, 'bout time I came back around.

Right up ahead there's a little road that cuts away.

I got time, might take a drive on down memory lane.

V.2

All the roadsigns paint a picture of how things used to be.

Aint no escapin' it, this town's a part of me.

From the looks of things a storm came through just yesterday.

And as I drive, the memories keep fallin' like the rain.

(Chorus)

Funny how everytime it rains,

it's connected to a different time, a different place.

It's the smell and the sound,

of water hitting the ground,

that takes me back, carries me away.

Well the sun may be a shinin' today.

But I'm drivin' through, yesterdays rain.

V.3

High school ball round here's this little towns pride and joy.

We were drenched in sweat and mud, with state on the line. And boy,

we came so close, but just couldn't get it.

It feels like I'm there, man, how could I forget it.

(Chorus)

Funny how everytime it rains,

it's connected to a different time, a different place.

It's the smell and the sound,

of water hitting the ground,

that takes me back, carries me away.

Well the sun may be a shinin' today.

But I'm drivin' through, yesterdays rain.

(Bridge)

From bein' a kid, playin in puddles in the yard,

to kissin my baby in the rain, or muddin with my friends.

As I drive through my yesteryears, the past keeps floodin in.

Man, take a look, them storm clouds are sure gettin dark.

(Chorus)

Funny how everytime it rains,

it's connected to a different time, a different place.

It's the smell and the sound,

of water hitting the ground,

that takes me back, carries me away.

Well the sun may be a shinin' today.

But I'm drivin' through, yesterdays rain.

Ya the sun is sure a shinin today.

But I'm drivin through, yesterdays rain.
